Brazil and Argentina disputing the presidency of the IADB

Brazil plans to push for its own candidate to lead the Inter-American Development Bank, vying with Argentina for the regional lender’s top job. Brazil is lobbying for Marcos Troyjo, the Economy Ministry’s Special Secretary for Foreign Trade and International Affairs or Maria Silvia Bastos, who chairs Goldman Sachs Group Inc., while Argentina supports Gustavo Beliz, current Secretary for Strategic Affairs.

Argentine farmer selling falls 60% on year, 9% on week

Argentina's farmers continued to sell grains and oilseeds at a sluggish pace last week with export licence applications remaining slow in a week marked by the government’s closure of the export licence registration system, official data showed. Weekly farmer sales totalled 1.41 million mt across both old and new-crop corn, soybeans and wheat. That compared with 1.55 million mt in the previous week, and with 3.56 million mt in the equivalent week last year.
