Hedge funds lead by Monarch join forces for Argentina debt negotiations

Monarch Alternative Capital LP is spearheading a group of about 20 hedge funds advised by Dennis Hranitzky at law firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, which is getting organised ahead of debt restructuring talks with Argentina. The group is focused on notes that were part of the nation’s 2005 and 2010 debt exchanges which give a relatively small number of investors the power to veto any accord they didn’t like.

IMF team travels to Argentina in February after “positive” meeting

An IMF technical team will travel to Buenos Aires in February, an important step in critical debt negotiations, after Argentine Economy Minister Martín Guzmán held talks in New York on Tuesday with the Deputy Director of the IMF's Western Hemisphere Department, Julie Kozack, and the chief of mission for Argentina, Luis Cubeddu, which both parties described as "very productive." Guzmán is scheduled to meet with the IMF managing director, Kristalina Georgieva, next week at the Vatican.
